MIDAS is an interactive light wall in which
user’s shadows illuminate as though it were
gold. By replacing black with gold, it gives
the intangible shadow a tangible experience.
Black represents an array of sad emotions,
from pain to suffering. Often the color itself
does not provoke any emotion, often symbol-
izing the lack of. Gold, on the other hand represents excess and arrogance.
The installation creates a yin and yang
sort of harmony between the two extremes.
The gold only shows under the shadow-
humbling the color, while the gold tone’s
contrast next to a dark shadow in turn,
creates something of beauty, out of nothing.
